Tamil Nadu is one of the 28 states in India which has its own alphabet which is called Tamilnadu alphabet or TANAGA alphabet. The most important institution that comes under Ministry of Education, Government of India for providing free education to children is State Board of Education Chennai, or more popularly known as State Board of School Education (SBSE). The language used in this volume is simple and can be understood by students and teachers easily. As the book is prepared from scratch, it needs no changes in content or illustrations. However, when India was celebrating 75th year of Independence in year 2000 the book was again published in a new volume with modified content. In addition to that details about three National Games held in Tamilnadu were also included in this volume. The volume was named as 'MathrukshangaTamil', meaning 'The Game of Mathruses'. All the text books used for Government Schools in Tamil Nadu follow a Standardised Format, following a set syllabus and a set set of textbooks. The books are chosen based on the topics covered, and the time available to complete syllabus.
